Fangoria "The Thing" Art Contest, 1981

Before the release of John Carpenter's "The Thing" Fangoria ran an art contest for readers to submit interpretations of what they thought the alien would look like. The above are the result.

I did the drawing of the two men and two dogs preparing to battle the Thing. Fangoria sent me, as a finalist, a bunch of goodies from Universal, including the novelization, the LP of the soundtrack, a pamphlet of "Who Goes There?" (the short story from Joseph Campbell on which "The Thing" is based), some t-shirts with the logo and a Scanners t-shirt, too (if I'm remembering that right). Anyway, it was kind of cool.
