There are so many layers to this piece; both visually and metaphorically. i can actually see many ideas in this piece expressing a movement AWAY from religion. The artist seems to be torn between the highly dramatic and primitive, yet rigid superstitions of religion; and the frightening and unpredictable nature of reality. For example, the "palest" horse in the painting is not of The 4th Horseman; it is that of the "5th Horseman"- The bow-and-arrow wielding warrior on the right. Terrifying. Stunning.
