Wayne Barlowe's Alien Planet
A few years ago the Discovery Channel adapted Wayne Barlowe's incredible science fiction book "Expedition: Being an Account in Words and Artwork of the 2358 A.D. Voyage to Darwin IV" into a feature length documentary detailing what life on other planets might be like. The documentary faithfully adapts with 3D computer effects many if not all of the illustrations from the Expedition book. Above are a few examples of the paintings from Expedition, see more at Barlowe's site. Below is the full hour and a half documentary.

I had Barlow's Guide to Extraterrestrials when I was much younger. It pointed the way to a lot of really great science fiction.

Thanks for posting this! I watched the entire thing this evening and was blown away. The creature designs were simply amazing and the story was pretty intriguing as well. Very cool stuff.

When I originally heard about this I hoped it would have been an actual film based entirely on the book rather than the documentary with cuts to interviews with random scientists but it's still really good.
