Baba Yaga

Aeron Alfrey - Baba Yaga Here's something by my own hands, I spent a great deal of time on this one last year. You can see more of my art here. While this particular work is not available, three of my favorite artworks, Grimscribe, The Mist, and Songs Of A Dead Dreamer, are available for sale.

Wow. That's wonderfully creepy. I really feel like i could reach out and touch the stuff. Not that i'd want to (yikes!)...

Wow!
You know what I would love to see? This as the second in a diptych or series, the first of which would be the same scene, but one of deceiving appearances, so that the second hits you as the disturbing revelation of the reality you don't see at first.

This is fantastic! I have been following MonsterBrains and admiring your art for some time. The Baba Yaga is one of my favorite myth characters; you can see a rendition I did at http://thespiderking.deviantart.com/liasontothebabayaga

keep being monstrous!

Oh man, Baba Yaga. I don't scare easily, but something about her makes my skin crawl. It's, like, deep inside, I fear she's real.

Love that russian bitch, eh witch. She's seriously mean.

And - of course - I love your stuff! Tried to add your blogspot-feed to my aggregator a while ago, but it seems like you haven't enabled any feed for aeronalfrey.blogspot.com :/

Of course it's digital. It has a sterile perfection that's inherent in all digital art due to the process. The artist is amazingly talented regardless of medium and it would be a treat to see him live up to his potential and inflect real charm into his illustrations by ditching zeros and ones in favor of pen and ink.

I would like to offer my apology for my comment yesterday regarding digital art. At the time I certainly didn't want to insult your artistic skills, but I feel I did so indirectly by implying that your excellent talent was wasted on digital art. In retrospect I was feeling hostile towards all digital art. I ignorantly associated your art with all of the aspects of digital art that I don't like, even though your art possesses none of these negative aspects.

Thank you everyone.

Alf, no problem, I understand the feelings regarding digital art. I know a lot of that is related to a feeling that shortcuts are made in digital imagery that becomes a sort of cheating to the real process of physically drawing or painting the same thing. That is often the case with many images found online.

However, there are those digital artists out there who take no short cuts and probably go into such obsessive detail that the same images we create, were they painted or drawn, would have been far easier to create. I can tell you that this Baba Yaga piece took me somewhere between 150 to 200 hours to create.

I want to get into creating physical art more but there's so many visions that I need to express through the digital medium that it always falls by the wayside.
