I am in LOVE with those water-flea looking creatures in the third pic!
I had the good fortune of watching the anime series in its entirety WITHOUT knowing the ending beforehand. It's a down-to-Earth medieval drama with almost no monsters or supernatural phenomena, which would normally bore me out of my skull, but the characters were truly lovable and their lives very fun to follow.
Until the last two episodes, when (literally) all hell breaks loose and every single person you grew to know is gruesomely devoured by a wondrous variety of, well, things that devour.
The series is like an extremely drawn-out joke with a VERY dark punchline and a huge payoff for monster lovers.
There's a lot more where this came from. Sometime probably in late May I'm going to do a weeklong post on monsters in manga. There will be a lot more artwork from Berserk shown on one of those days. There's a lot of great and amusing scenes of giant monsters fighting armies with swords and axes getting ripped to shreds and thrown in every direction. And I thought some of these pics would appeal to you, Luke.
Also, I've seen the animated version of this and it is great. The opening sequence talking about how Guts is born from the hanging corpse of his mother on a tree, very wicked! I wish they'd make more animations from the manga.
