Cereal/Novelty Toy Creature Art

I stumbled into this incredible collection of odd novelty cereal toy art along with many photos showing all the weird creatures that came with cereal back in the old days. If only they still put stuff this cool in cereal boxes now! All the cereal art and toys are included in this collection. More weird art and photos of odd critters can be found at the photo album for Thingmaker Toys. All photos are provided by Astronit on flickr.

Also, for anyone into making t-shirts, the Nit Party creatures and Quisp alien monsters would make some great designs - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4

And someone posted a huge number of Freakies cereal commercials in this youtube clip.

Yoshitaka Amano - Deva-Loka

"The Galerie Michael Janssen Berlin is pleased to present the solo exhibition by Yoshitaka Amano. 30 new works, as well as new anime films will be on view until the end of February at the Berlin gallery space. With its 7 meters the largest painting, Deva-Loka, depicts a fabled world completely filled with psychedelic figures."

Pictures from the exhibit can be found at the gallery website here. A better source for artwork from the show, as the works are much larger, can be found at the "We Make Money, Not Art" flickr page for the Amano exhibit here.
More paintings from the exhibit can be found on Artnet and Calamasque's flickr photos. An article on the exhibit can be found at Creative Europe.com

I have a few Amano art books and a lot of his art downloaded from various places and intend to do a large post on his stuff possibly later this year. I don't care for Final Fantasy games but I can't resist looking through the game guides at bookstores to see his incredible artwork that is usually used in them. I regret not buying a book I saw a few years ago that had a detailed map from Final Fantasy that Amano had painted which was I think a fold out poster / cover on the book. I've since found it posted on flickr here, although not in great detail. If anyone knows where I can find this fantasy map painting by Amano in more detail I'd like to check it out, thanks!

Kalender Of Shepherdes

Here's a handful of great woodcuts found while browsing peacay's excellent image collection over on flickr. See more from the Kalender Of Shepherdes collection here.

The following is a quote from peacay regarding what these works are about...

"The 'Kalender of the Shepherdes' is a late medieval almanac first published in the 1490s in Paris by Guy Marchant and Antoine Vérard. It incorporates writing and illustrations that traverse a number of themes including astrological, feasting and Saints day calendars, farming advice, folk medicine and (most significantly) religious instruction."

More info and pics are available at the original BibliOdyssey article.
