i think i can ID those illustrations, or at least give you context: Interplanetary Hunter!
i've never read the stories myself, but remembered seeing an image of the "whiz-bang beetle" from another science-fiction bestiary book, and that neuron stayed with me, unused... until now!
The 3-headed monster and the various creatures were drawn by Ed Emshwiller, for a series of stories by Arthur K. Barnes that eventually appeared in a single volume from Ace Books, INTERPLANETARY HUNTER. Many of these Emsh illustrations were included in that book.
