There's not much of anything available online about Don Punchatz but I was able to find out that he designed the original Doom package art and logo in 1993.
And there is this short bit of info posted at Wikipedia... "Don Ivan Punchatz, born 1936, is an artist who has drawn illustrations for numerous publications including magazines, such as: Heavy Metal, National Geographic, Playboy, and Time."
Don's son Gregor Punchatz worked on the Doom game series, he did modeling work for A Nightmare On Elm Street Part 2, Robocop and Robocop 2 and Fright Night Part 2.
