James Gillray
"A British caricaturist famous for his political and social satires, mainly published between 1792 and 1810."
Gillray uses weird human animal monsters in many of his works to express his political and social views.

Art For Pan's Labyrinth by William Stout
Here's some interesting conceptual art for my favorite film of the year, Guillermo Del Toro's fantasy film "Pan's Labyrinth". I saw it a few months ago and it was amazing. Del Toro embraces in this film everything I love in art - monsters, wild fantastic architecture, mysterious creatures, it's all there. I don't recall the ghost creature vomiting the animal skull being in the film though, perhaps the dvd will have some cut scene with it in it?
For more information on Pan's Labyrinth, visit the official site here. Or to see more art by William Stout, click here. Check out the art Stout did for the 80's version of "Invaders From Mars". And my favorite William Stout movie creation has got to be the tar zombie from Return of the Living Dead!

Jeff Gaither
Not sure how I managed to go this long without mentioning Jeff Gaither, but here he is. I used to buy tattoo magazines as a teenager just to get the cool fold out posters of Gaither art they'd come with. Been a fan for a long time. Check out this painting.

Terrance Lindall at the Surreal Art Collective
Jon Beinart brought to my attention his gallery with artwork by Terrance Lindall. I posted about him awhile back but only now is there a real gallery online of his work. You'll recognize his art as that attached to the Monster Brains banner above. There's many other great artists in the surreal and fantastic style at the Surreal Art Collective.
Nivbed
Lots of great fantasy art with some interesting monsters scattered about. I really enjoyed this page of sketches. The wolf image a few pics down on the Livejournal page is strange.

David Sandlin's Swamp Preacher
"Swamp Preacher presents the sixth volume of Sandlin’s ongoing project A Sinner's Progress, an epic series of lore surrounding characters involved with a religious novelty company, Pur-Ton-o-Fun Co. Moving back in time, Swamp Preacher uncovers the unearthly origins of Carl Bob deVille, Pur-Ton-o-Fun Co.’s charismatic and mysterious founder. Metamorphosed through the absorption of others’ sins, Carl Bob deVille must be reborn from swampy depths. The legend of Swamp Preacher draws on rich sources from the Southern gothic tradition to pulp fiction comics."
Purchase a copy here.
More books by Sandlin can be found here.

Paintings From Hell
Always a great source of inspiration for monsters, Hell has been interpreted by countless artists in many gruesome and fantastic ways. While browsing the Wikimedia Commons I found some great galleries of art based on the Last Judgement, Hell, and The Devil.
Click the following numbers to see some of my favorites. And don't forget to double click these images to see the larger versions.

Calef Brown
Better known for his kids books and colorful paintings, I'm a bigger fan of Calef Brown's incredibly weird drawings. Pages 2 - 7 of the La Luz de Jesus archive of Calef Brown's show there has a great selection of his weird drawings, unfortunately they're incredibly small. More work at his official site.
