Henry Clarke















I discovered the illustrations of Clarke in my teens within a copy of Edgar Allen Poe's "Tales of Mystery and Imagination". His Art Nouveau style with the skeletal figures and strikingly bizarre creatures have stayed in my head ever since.

Boris Artzybasheff
I discovered the art of Boris in an older issue of Blab. I was amazed at the reinterpretation of the human body as factory and war machines. He made many illustrations for Time magazine. His trademark seems to have been giving human like appearances to vehicles and other machinery.

Nemo Ramjet
This gallery contains a great selection of unique looking creatures and very mutated humans. Nemo appears to have a wide range of styles but my favorite is where he appears influenced by Moebius. Click on the numbers below to see a few of my favorite works from the site.

Otake Shigeo's "Secrets of Plant Worms House"
Shigeo is one of the most interesting artists I've discovered this year. The paintings are filled with very alien looking plant life and creatures. Some of the work reminds me of Jim Woodring, Remedios Varo and Leonora Carrington.

José Guadalupe Posada
Posada was a Mexican illustrator who had a tendency to draw a lot of skeletons. His imagery is often filled with very dark scenes of disaster, torture and demonic creatures attacking people. He also made a wide variety of political cartoons which often included the previously mentioned types of imagery. Antoine Bernhart
Since there aren't any websites dedicated to Bernhart, I chose to scan in and upload a selection of his works from the "Rope, Rapture and Bloodshed" book at flickr. If Bernhart or anyone representing him wants these images taken offline just ask me and I'll remove them.

Bernhart's paintings are brutal violent grotesque and imaginative works. Masked characters, monsters, animals and peculiar toy like things interact with nude women usually in some form of bondage.

Reinhard Scheibner
Continuing on with another artist from the Le Dernier Cri camp, Scheibner has created some very odd imagery. This image of nude figures interacting with worm like monsters is a good example of just how unusual his work can be.

Stu Mead
Another artist associated with Le Dernier Cri, Mead has made some very unusual works. He has a penchant for making incredibly obscene yet humorous imagery.

Hans Bellmer

Oscar Chichoni
The style of Chichoni uses the mechanical and incorporates gothic imagery such as gargoyles as well as other fantastical elements. All of his imagery contains rich textures that often emulates a rusted surface.

Toshio Saeki
Certainly one of the more bizarre artists I've ever posted on here. Toshio Saeki has been called "The godfather of Japanese erotica" and makes some of the most perverted, demented and fascinating images I've ever seen.
