Krampus

Here's some early Krampus for Paul Rumsey. I've got a big post planned for this demonic Christmas character but here's an interesting recent depiction for now. I found this browsing photobucket, the name of the artist appears to be on the art but I can't really make it out.
Alberto Savinio

Souvenir d'un monde disparu, oil on canvas, 1928

La notte sul borgo, 1950

L'annunciazione, 1932

La nostra anima, lithograph, 1944

The brother of the surrealist Giorgio de Chirico, Alberto Savinio was an Italian writer and painter like his more well known brother.

I discovered this artist thanks to a great post at Giornale Nuovo which has more large examples of Savnio's paintings.

More of his art can be seen in the following websites...

Paintings of Doom

The above is a doom painting from the Wenhaston Church in Suffolk.
The doom style of painting shows the final judgement of souls after death, a more detailed description can be found here. According to the SuffolkChurches site the doom painting was created between 1500 - 1520. To see a photo of the complete Doom painting, check this Flickr listing.

Check out this article at SuffolkChurches.com to read about this work which has an interesting history behind it.

Details from Doom paintings located in Oxfordshire..

Another Doom painting from St. Peter's Church, Chaldon, Surrey, created sometime before 1200 A.D. Keep clicking on the images at this site to see zoomed in versions of the work.

Further examples can be found here.
Painting From the Royal Museum of Fine Arts of Antwerp

I found this fantastic painting while browsing flickr, unfortunately there was no artist name attached to it. If anyone knows who painted this I'd appreciate knowing, it's apparently someone out of this list. A larger copy of this can be found here. Groenling, the person who posted this work on flickr has a vast collection of photos taken from various churches and musesums all over Europe. Check it out. I'll be mentioning more artwork from this collection later as I search through it. Here's a great photo they took of a painting showing Saint George defeating the dragon.
